About You

overwhelmed

You get a phone call from your mother at work.  Your dad fell and broke his hip and is at the hospital.  She doesn’t know what to do and asks you to come right away, except you live in another province.

Your wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease 2 years ago.  You were managing to care for her at home, but now she is beginning to need diapering and bathing, and you’re not physically fit to do it yourself.

Your father is caring for your mother who has Parkinson’s Disease.  They live alone and you are worried not only about your mother’s deterioration,
but the stress caregiving is taking on your father. You have young children at home and cannot provide as much assistance as you’d like.

You have just learned of the term caregiver, and truth be told, are not concerned about the terminology of the new role you have.  You just know you are stressed out and overwhelmed.  Your aging parents need help, and you have children at home whose needs you do not want to ignore.  Added to that, you are having trouble meeting your deadlines at work.  Your energy is being depleted and no matter what you do, no one’s needs are being met, least of all your own.

Does this sound like you? Erickson Resource Group can help. For more information, see our needs assessment to guide you in identifying the type of care your aging parent or loved one needs. This assessment also provides recommendations of toolkits to address the identified needs
