Toolkits

Where do I Begin?

Caregiving is usually something that falls in our laps, and often in a time of crisis.  Most of the time, we have not been given the time or tools to prepare for the responsibility.  It is so difficult to know where to start and what to do.

These toolkits were created to assist caregivers in the assessment and organization of the multitude of tasks involved in caring for a loved one.

The toolkits can be used PRIOR to a crisis and during a crisis.

Of course caregiving involves so much more than “tasks”, but in order to understand what our loved one needs, and to obtain the right services to meet this need, we must take a step back and systematically assess the situation and develop a simple and complete plan of action.

Each of these toolkits is designed with a specific purpose.  For example, the “Placement” toolkit is specifically for those individuals who are looking for a facility for their loved one to live.  The “Home Care” toolkit is designed for those who are considering home care services for their loved one or are already using these services.

Each toolkit can be used on its own, or in partnership with other toolkits.

How Can These Toolkits Help My Employees?

When a caregiver has the responsibility of both work and caring for an aging loved one, and may even have young children to care for at the same time, the tasks on his or her “to do” list is endless.  Employees usually know what their job is and how to get it done, and they know what responsibilities they have as a parent.

What employees often do not know, or do not prepare for, is the amount of activities involved in caring for another adult.

These tools will assist your employees in assessing, organizing and planning the care for their aging loved one.  Some toolkits are designed for employees who are helping someone now, or in the near future, such as the “Placement” toolkit.  Others, like the “Organizing Affairs” toolkit can be used immediately to help the employee prepare and pre-plan for their loved one and their own aging and is appropriate for an employee at any age.

Isn’t it true that a better informed and prepared employee produces better outcomes and has more energy and focus at work?  The same applies to caregiving.

The more we are prepared, the better equipped we will be to handle the responsibility of caregiving.  The better we handle the responsibility, the more energy we will have for our work and families, leading to improved work performance and a more satisfied and balanced employee.

“We have an EAP program, but all it offers are phone numbers for resources. These tools are fantastic because my employees can gain access to resources immediately. This is so much more than just a phone number.” – CEO of multinational company.
